- You don't. Period. Do not tell her, let a qualified trained psychologist
handle this one. This is how it works, first the therapist will perform
an evaluation, making sure there is no other underlying cause, such as
other mental health problems, chemical dependence, neurological problems
or possibly medical conditions. These tests are painless but seemingly
redundant and unorganized. He may ask what day it is three times in a session,
ask the patient to repeat his name, ask what he had for breakfast, if he
hears voices and such.
Then the therapist will interact with the possible BPD patient. This may take several sessions. April appeared fairly normal, although quite irritated through the first few sessions, then she had a complete breakdown, yelling and screaming her face completely flush with anger.
What I would recommend for you is to keep a discrete log of events you feel are associated with her condition, bring it along with you to these sessions. Tell the therapist what events happened before the BPD patient's actions that you think indicate BPD.
